Sunday nights just won’t be the same

Melissa April 27th, 2009

Last night saw the last in the series of ‘Brides of Franc’.  The series has been entertaining us for the past few months and providing much to talk about particularly among those planning their own weddings.  I had the good fortune to be involved with three of the episodes- two as the wedding photographer and one as the stills photographer for the production company.  I can honestly say that it was a privilege to work with all of the parties inolved; the Weddings by Franc team, Power Pictures and, most importantly, the couples themselves.

Here are a few shots from the last night’s last show in the series- Patricia and Lou’s wedding in Central Park, Manhattan.

advice from your friendly photographer- the morning of the wedding.

Melissa September 10th, 2008

I would like to begin an ongoing topic- ‘advice and ramblings for b2b’s’. Seeing as I attend more than my share of weddings I get asked a good few questions about the happenings on the big day. At times I can feel like a part time on the spot coordinator (watch out Franc- just kidding he he!). I thought it might be useful for me to write about some things that I feel might be helpful or informative.

I’ll direct my first entry to the bridal prepartation on the morning.

My first and biggest bit of advice is to hire a professional hairdresser and make up artist that will travel to where you are getting ready. There are so many benefits to this, I will just list a few.

They will attend to you, your bridesmaids and anyone else who you would like to include such as a flower girl (what a treat for a little princess!) and your mother. They will keep the schedual running on time- they are seasoned veteran’s at this so you and your bridal party will be ready to go on time (or nearly!).

You can relax in comfort as you are all getting beautified, drink some champers and have a laugh- no driving through traffic getting in and out of cars etc…

I personally like the photos of the prepartation and transformation I think they add an important element of the story.

And lastly, and by far most importantly, you will look and feel FAB!

Over the past several years I have had the pleasure of spending many mornings in the company of some very talented hairdressers and make up artists:

Pauline Fletcher who is the manager of the Mac counter in Brown Thomas, Galway is an artist with her make up brushes- sometimes I suspect there is some fairy dust hidden in her potions and lotions as she really does work magic.

Kate Regan and Helga Kampf are two mobile hairdressers who never fail to impress me with their beautiful styles and fantasically calming personalities in what can be a chaotic morning.

My only word of warning is to contact these women well in advance as they have become very popular and book out very fast!

As always, you are very welcome to email me if you have any specific questions that I can answer.

(in case you are wondering, I have received no free hair styles or Mac make up in return from this endorsement- I quite simply love working with the above vendors as they are so professional and make all of my subjects look even more stunning!)
